Maryon Park Community Garden is run as a constituted not-for-profit community voluntary project with its own officers, committee, treasurer and independent auditor.
Summary Report For Friends 2019 AGM
Open Days
The Community Garden ran three Open Days this year: the ‘Big Dig’ open day in April 2019, the ‘Big Lunch’ in June and the ‘Urban Harvest’ in September.
Gardening and Growing
So far this year the Community Garden Plot-holders have grown 54 kg of produce, the equivalent of 667 meals.
Forest School Space
The local child-minder’s group and Windrush School continue to use the Forest School space for regular sessions. Woodhill School ran an ‘early-years’ pupils and parents day in July.
Family Workshops and Outdoor Art
This year, Simon Woodward from COATS, the Community Outdoor Art Service, and the Forest School leader, Chevonne Campbell, have both run ‘Outdoor Family Workshops’ in the Forest School space. Simon also works with private clients in the Forest School.
Wednesday Volunteers
New volunteers have joined the Wednesday sessions. They help maintain the Garden completing seasonal tasks. Groups of corporate volunteers from Canary Wharf have helped with general gardening tasks including some heavy lifting maintenance work.
Grants
The Community Garden has received a Grant to resurface the Community Garden’s gravel entrance path. The work should be completed in the next two weeks.
Maintenance
Alan continues to work hard. He built the steps and entrance to the ‘Green Room’ and is preparing the entrance for resurfacing the path. Alan, with the help of Vanessa, is also constructing a conservatory style garden workshop.
Garden Improvement Projects
Work will continue to upgrade all the garden paths. Solar power and extra storage units for the garden are also being considered.
The Green Room
This year, the Community Garden has completed and opened the Green Room. It is the Community Garden office and meeting space. It is also available to hire as a therapy space and the space has received its first booking.
Santa
Santa will be in his Grotto on Saturday 7th December 1.0 to 3.0 pm to meet families with young children during the Community Garden winter sale.
